Dr. Mike Washkevich
"Dr. Mike and a patient working diligently."
Dr. Mike came to the field of veterinary medicine through a rather circuitous route. Always wanting to be a veterinarian, plans were sidetracked in his high school and college days as he had to provide for his Mother. He began working 100 hours weekly. He knew he would not be able to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian, as the course work was just too time consuming. So, he fell into Business, a career path that he had never considered.
But this allowed him to schedule classes from 8-12 Monday/Wednesdays/Fridays, and pursue the three jobs that he had to provide for his Mother. It was a decision that he always regretted. But, upon looking back, he was proud that he was able to provide sustenance to his family. He wandered from job to job, state to state, never really happy. He moved to Denver, and it was there that one of the most impacting events in his life happened. He was coming home after a grueling day during tax season. He had become a CPA and consultant, but was never happy with his choice. A little Calico kitty was waiting at the bottom of the stairs. He invited her up into his apartment, and his life was changed forever.
On April 15th, (ironically enough, Tax Day), she presented him with five BEAUTIFUL kittens! The next day, he walked into his firm, tendered his resignation, and returned to school to complete his prerequisites for admittance to veterinary school. Upon completing these, he applied to every veterinary school for which he was eligible. Colorado State said no, The Ohio State University said yes. So he moved to a state he had not even visited in order to pursue his dreams. And for those of you who believe in kismet: he met the Mother of the most incredible daughter he could ever wish for. A miracle in the making. After vet school, he pursued many avenues, as he had many opportunities due to his business background. He managed 19 clinics for one of the big Corporate practices, he worked 10 years for another, and he owned 3 clinics of his own.
But his niche was never to be found. Until now. He began his veterinary relief service last year and realized his dream. Multiple clinics and clients, multiple environments, and the chance to shine in all (all due humility intended). Satisfying the clients of different clinics, being exposed to so many different environments, and experiencing so many unique opportunities is what he thrives on. He will continue to do so, and only hopes he can continue to help as many veterinarians as possible realize their dreams!
